AN EXCITING CULINARY TOUR IN NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FLORIDA

MARCH 7-10, 2025

Stephen Fries and Chris Bartlett will host Worth Tasting New Smyrna Beach the weekend of March 7 – 10, 2025 at Joy by the Sea. Stephen and Chris have hosted “Worth Tasting,” the culinary walking tour of downtown New Haven in CT for 17 years. They are on the Board of the International Association of Culinary Professionals. Stephen is Professor Emeritus of Hospitality Management. He spent 36 years as professor and coordinator of the hospitality management programs. He is also a syndicated food and culinary-travel columnist for multiple newspapers. Chris is co-founder and CEO of GEM Advertising and Poetic Sunset Escapes that can be found on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

This is an all-inclusive culinary weekend. We’ll create food boards, attend a farmers’ market, participate in a walking tour of both Canal Street & Flagler Avenue with drinks and small bites at select locations, and enjoy unique dining experiences.

Spend the weekend in historic and delightful New Smyrna Beach learning the secrets of creating food boards to enjoy at the inn as well as ideas to take home to share and prepare for family and friends.

Enjoy a Culinary Weekend in New Smyrna Beach, Florida!

Friday
Guests arrive by 3 PM to get settled-in, and ready for a weekend of fun and delicious activities. We will all meet for the evening social hour at 5:00 PM to review the weekend itinerary and receive your “swag bag” before heading to an historic treehouse for dinner and drinks.

Saturday
Breakfast will be served 8:30AM – 9:30 at Joy by the Sea at the Beach House with delectables from a local favorite, Mon Delice. Together, we will tour the local Saturday farmers’ market (and local food environs) to shop for items to make food boards at the inn (included in the package). Following our morning outing, the Mackenzie Smith Luncheon will take place at the Beach House at Joy by the Sea.  Stephen Fries will interview MacKenzie about her book, “Grilled Cheese Social,” as attendees dine on various favorites from her award-winning book. A private tour of The Queen’s Gambit mansion will follow this delectable lunch session. Late Saturday afternoon will see us collectively checking out the eclectic offerings and shops along Canal Street from The Hub – Arts Center to the Galley, where we will sample and taste some of the best olive oils and balsamic vinegars available. Social hour will have us tasting some amazing, local distilled spirits at Sugar Works Distillery.  Tonight, dinner is at your whim, no matter what you feel like, there is a place waiting to show you a great evening.

Sunday
Breakfast will take place at a fun, local establishment, whose menu is unique as the atmosphere (8:30-9:30am). After breakfast we will stroll up and down Flagler Avenue from the intercoastal to the beach, where motorists can pay to take their vehicles onto the sprawling sands of the beach. Flagler Avenue is dotted with eclectic shops, local arty boutiques, and interesting art galleries, not to mention a plethora of rooftop bars for sipping and savoring the charming beach vibe of this coastal, Atlantic beach town. We will regroup at 12:00pm for a brunch to remember at Third Wave Cafe & Wine Bar, on Flagler. Sunday afternoon offers time to relax back at Joy by the Sea or splash in the inviting, crystalline waters of the Atlantic or the pool.  We will gather Sunday evening at the exquisite and exclusive Queen’s Gambit for a private, catered pizza and beverages party, all made to order in the two outdoor pizza ovens perched with views overlooking the mesmerizing horizon.

Monday, Time to say goodbye…

One final breakfast together as a group to enjoy great shared moments eating together… Checkout is at 11AM so everyone has time to enjoy another fabulous breakfast before heading home.
